Now, it’s an entirely different world – except in some remarkable respects. Business owners are still subjected to a lot, particularly stress. And this means these individuals will suffer both mentally and physically.

Common Causes of Mental and Physical Stress and Poor Health

Being an entrepreneur comes with many challenges. Business owners often have to deal with a high level of uncertainty and unpredictability in their ventures. This can create feelings of a lack of control and lead to stress and anxiety. Plus, having to work long hours to keep their business running, can lead to fatigue, burnout, and poor physical health.
It’s no secret that entrepreneurship in the startup field comes with a lot of uncertainty and stress. Researchers from Harvard Business Review interviewed 65 entrepreneurs and found that stress and fear had both motivating and inhibiting consequences. For example, fears related to financial stress actually encouraged greater persistence, while fears of failure related to aptitude had an inhibiting result. —Forbes

What’s more, entrepreneurs may neglect their physical and mental health due to the demands of their business. This can include poor eating habits, lack of exercise, and lack of sleep.

Successful People Overcome these Big Challenges The trouble for some entrepreneurs is they let other things get in the way. Let’s be clear, we all have doubts, we all are susceptible to believing the worst, and to give into negative emotions. This is why there are no self-help manuals on how to fail. Having to really think about spending money wisely means having to make informed decisions. Age. The number of years you’ve lived on this planet might be relatively few or relatively long, but, it doesn’t really matter. Notice the word “relatively.” Age is only a number and it doesn’t mean that you’re naive if you’re young or wise if you’re old. Your age doesn’t give people the authority or right, to tell you what you should and should not do. Self doubt. This is a primordial trait, and, one that’s designed to make us approach the unknown with caution. Our primitive ancestors simply didn’t know if something would be harmful or helpful until it was tried. Doubt is healthy because it forces us to take pause but it doesn’t have to be an insurmountable barrier. Use it to your advantage and don’t let it take control. Toxic people. Successful people don’t allow toxic people in their lives. What’s more, they quickly identify such bad personalities and stay clear. The reason some avoid what’s otherwise obvious, is the ability to rationalize certain relationships thinking that the good will outweigh the bad — it won’t. Another big challenge is one that’s very real and direct: the competition. You are nearly assured to see others succeeding in the same industry, even in the same niche. This can certainly be a discouragement, but, doesn’t have to be one. Instead, look at them as an inspiration, if he or she did it, then why can’t you do the same? While you might have different beginnings, talents, and resources, you can use what’s at your disposal to your advantage. So, if this happens to your business, you need to be prepared. Inventory Shortages are Inevitable There’s no such thing as unlimited supply when it comes to material inventory. Whether it’s a disruption in the supply chain or sudden and unexpected limit of raw materials, the end result is the same — businesses can’t keep their shelves stocked. When put in this precarious situation, sales are inevitably affected, usually negatively. COVID-19 has had a disruptive effect on the global supply chain, and small businesses are not immune. An average of more than 30% of American small business owners across sectors still reported a disruption to their supply chain in June 2020 data, months into the pandemic. Supply-chain disruptions can affect small businesses in many ways: They can reduce revenue, inflate costs, cut into market share, or cause issues with production—all of which can damage a company’s bottom line. —The Balance Small Business Of course, a drop off in sales can be temporary and inflict minimal damage. Fortunately, there are usually a few or more vendors who supply businesses with the same types of inventory. Even a source that’s a bit more expensive can be worthwhile if it keeps customers coming through the door. (And, better still, if competitors aren’t willing to pay a higher sourcing price.) Clearly communicate with customers. There’s simply nothing good that can come from not being totally up-front with your customers. In fact, there’s hardly more that is counterproductive. If you experience an inventory supply shortage, let your customers know what’s going on — especially if it’s expected to last for a significant amount of time. Tap into super-sized, large bulk orders. Much like the first suggestion, you might find inventory for products in short supply in larger bulk orders. Obviously, you’ll have to run the numbers to determine if it’s financially viable and doesn’t present too much a risk. Identify problems with inventory management. There are times when businesses have inventory issues that are caused by their own ordering and selling practices. Go over your procedures to identify any problems and then apply sensible solutions.
